    vent

Geez, Jack! Cut him some slack. We have many members here who started out low on the knowlege pole, myself included. Comments like that do nothing to promote this site as a place to promote and encourage the sport of traditional muzzle loading. Some people have the luxery of being introduced...

You might want to repost in the 'Cannon' section up near the top of the 'Firearms' forum. Just scroll up from 'The Builder's Bench'. Welcome to the forum. Paul

    Another lucky deer.

That is usually the best price. If you have some buddies to share it with, that lightens the load for all of you. Paul

    files for dumbies

Mike - He's like a puppy with a lot of youthful exuberance. When he settles down, he'll be good to go. Mattybok - It's hard to re-invent the wheel before you know how a wheel is made. This is a great place to learn. Stick around and enjoy the journey. Paul

    files for dumbies

Use only new files for brass. Do not be tempted to use your nice new 'brass' file on steel or it will never cut brass again. Wait till it gets too dull to cut brass. Then it becomes a 'steel' file. If you know somebody who works in a cabinet shop where they finish plastic laminate edges with...

Please, more info on the eagle inlays. Your pictures don't do that area justice. Other then that, nice work. Paul

    stock repair

I have done custom furniture building & repair for many years, so I see some parallels here. I can do very good repairs, but I am not a furniture conservitor (sp?). Despite my good intentions, my repairs could considerably reduce the value of a good antique. If a client presents a piece, for...

Goex black powder at Cabelas Canada

As a Canadian, the best way to buy black powder is to order a case from a distributor in the states. They can't ship accross the border, but if you use one of the mailing depots just accross the border, use their address and your name. When it comes in you go pick it up & bring it accross the...

Exporting a Reproduction Muzzleloader from the US

If it's a flintlock, I don't believe you will have any problem with export laws, as it is not considered a real gun by US laws. In Canada, under the soon to be defunct (I hope)gun registration laws, flintlocks are not registered and no license is required to purchase one. According to the Chief...

    Another cannon build

Looks good! It's been a while since I've seen somebody do 7 fellies & 14 spokes. Does it have consistant accuracy? Paul

    Verner kit done!

Wow!, I hadn't heard of that one. I guess too many slobs were "hunting small game" when they were really "loaded for bear". Sounds like another 'knee jerk' regulation that Ontario is so good for. I hear what you are trying to do, but in an 'enforcement situation', could you prove that you were...

    Verner kit done!

"as I have a upper limit of 400 FPE at the muzzle as per regulations. With that load I am still subsonic and makes it even more accurate. If I break the sound barrier I'll be too close to the max allowed for comfort." Can you explain the regulations that require you to stay subsonic? Paul

    Redux - Bamboo ram rods

I did some further research in my library & found a 1982 woodworking magazine with instructions for building a bamboo fly rod. The difference shown in preparing segments, by hand, from raw cane, as compared to my attempt to use strips of machine-cut would explain why my attempts failed. The...

    Redux - Bamboo ram rods

The rods broke approaching 90 degrees. They were considerably more limber then hickory, though with careful handling probably would have worked as ram rods, but IMHO would have ranked right alongside of hickory with runout. That is why I can't recommend this method of making ramrods. Paul

    Redux - Bamboo ram rods

I realy have no idea whether or not any one used bamboo for ram rods in the period you mentioned. IMHO, no one used engineered bamboo like I tried to work with. In a recent thread discussing ram rods,a poster inquired if bamboo could be used. Because I had some material on hand & the skills to...

    Redux - Bamboo ram rods

I spent some more time & extra effort, trying to see if bamboo would make decent ramrods. So, taking the face layers off of some salvage engineered bamboo paneling I had kicking around, and then gluing them together, resawing them into 3/8" strips and finally machining them round. The results -...
