    Jerusalem Mills Encampment

I'm heading down on Friday for the weekend. The weather ain't looking overly peachy at this point but I'm gonna take my chances. Won't be the first time sleeping in the rain and sure won't be the last. Nice smaller event. I'll be sutlering (or least pretending too..!) Tony

What inletting chisels do I need, and where is the cheapest/ best place to

Well my dos centavos is that most of the new stuff ain't worth a good spit. There are a lot of good older chisels and gouges out there. Makers like T H Witherby, James Swan, Buck Bros, P.S. & W, even some of the older hardware brands like Union Hardware, Sampson and Greenlee are good. For...

    Double Bitted Hand Axes

While double bitted axes have been around for a long time as weapons, I have yet to see one for wood chopping that that be dated to the 18th Century. Not saying there may not be one or two out there, but 99.5% of the 18th Century axes that I have seen, handled and sold were single bit. They...

    Low tech patch making tool.

I got to agree with old Jethro there, that's the the way I do it. In my book that's one of those "it don't need fixing so why break it" deals. Tony

Would this be a trade axe?

Something you have to watch for these days is that there is a lot of axes and hand forged items in general being brought over from places like Romania, Bulgaria, etc. The stuff looks like 18th Century, but it could just as well be early 20th Century as well. I see a a lot of it at the Brimfield...

Beating A Dead Horse: Cleaning Your Flinter

I've sorta gotten in the habit of after the 3rd or 4th time I have been out shooting the gun, to pull the lock and clean and oil it good. And if for some reason the gun or the case has gotten wet, I pull and clean it for sure. Tony

    Making an Awl

Depending on what size you are wanting, if you can find an old square nail that ain't all buggered up, those work well. You can always get a regular nail and file it square, although the new ones in my opinion ain't nearly as hard as the old ones. Tony

    Possible Bag?

I have one of Gary's bags, like the top one with the hair on the flap, but without the game rings. It does get rode hard and put away wet as they say. Only 2 things I don't much like, there is a back pocket, and even though the button is dished inward, it does like to dig into my thigh (I wear...
