    Flint Double ?

Is a flint double gun even physically possible? How do you fire one barrel without igniting the other?

    round barrel kentuckies?

It seems hard to believe an octagon barrel was less expensive to construct than a round barrel. Didn't America make extensive use of round barreled muskets from its founding up until around the time of the Civil War?

    Knives of iron?

Simeon I tried reading about blister steel and its use but that didn't really go into detail about whether the knives and axes and other tools of the early settlers were made of steel or if there were plain iron blades still being used at the time due to higher prices that would be commanded by...

    Knives of iron?

I don't really know if this is the right place for this thread but I'm not sure any other area would be more appropriate. A lot of my interest in muzzle loaders and their historical accessories is sometimes focused on more obscure matters. Take knives for example and their use by early settlers...

    What size?

I haven't been able to find any musket caps. But I've also been hard pressed to find any traditional styles sidelocks that won't accept #11 percussion caps.

HELP!! Uberti 1858 Army Care and Cleaning Advise

Cabelas and Midway USA both have extensive stock of black powder supplies, both for cleaning and shooting. Anything you need can be found there. Patches, solvents, lubricants, nipple wrenches, cappers, etc. they're all there. As for the .44 vs .45 I'm not sure it's much of an issue. The...

    round barrel kentuckies?

That certainly explains a lot. I always wondered the same thing about why round barreled rifles only seemed to come about around the time of the Civil War.

    My first rifle

This rifle just keeps getting better. A closer examination of the inside of the lock reveals no country of origin. There's nothing to indicate that it was made in Spain.

    Beautiful hawkin/plains custom rifle

Somewhere Jeremiah Johnson is turning green with envy.

    CVA FRONTIER

I have a question of my own for everybody. What's the difference between a Hawken, Mountain, Plains and Frontier rifle? They all look very similar to me except for minute differences.

    CVA Squirrel rifle questions!

The literature included with Traditions muzzle loaders lists 10 grains of FFFg as most likely to be accurate, while 25 grains is supposed to be a maximum charge. That's all I can say for sure on the matter.

CVA "USA" Mtn Rifle - ser numbers

No kidding, you too? That's pretty amazing.

    Obtaining accuracy

I know that muskets and accuracy usually aren't two words that go together. I also know that there are a lot of explanations for this fact, such as the use of undersized lead balls and the poor aerodynamics of the delivery. But in today's era of lubricated patches for softening powder fouling...

    My first rifle

That's what people keep saying when they see it. Only time will tell how it works when its tested. To be honest it's not the best deal I could've gotten. The same shop had a Thompson Center Hawken flintlock rifle in .45 for $125, but at the time I didn't have any interest in a flintlock. But I...

    My first rifle

Yes believe it or not I only spent $75 on it. I was as amazed as you about the screws being either straight or very close to straight. I already applied a good coating of CLP to the barrel to protect the browning finish and it looked good.

    My first rifle

Once the weather permits. It's been really rough lately. Anyway these are some pictures showing the details of what I got.

Got my new/old CVA Mountain Rifle today

Willy it's no exaggeration to say that I've got the exact same rifle as you, with the exception of mine being in .45 instead of the big .50 or .54. I got mine for $75 from a pawn shop.

    Jukar pistol help

The bend isn't to the left or the right but rather rearward. I've got a hand torch. Could that be used to heat up the neck of the hammer so it can be bent?

    Jukar pistol help

I would but I don't know how to go about doing that without ruining it. I'm open to suggestions.

    pedersoli trade gun?

That's definitely a good deal. Every online store I look at you can expect to pay $1,000 easy for a musket.
