    Question about arbor shim

I have a pietta1860 that I had to file the arbor down to fit a 45 colt cylinder on.

    arbor grease

Its a black powder revolver not a shithook so dont think they are that picky on lube. I still have a OH-6 tool kit and totaly no way any of will get near any of my guns.

    Uberti 1860 short arbor fix

Yes kirst on a pietta but bit of file its just can get a sheet of paper in the gap with it smacked to heck with a plastic end gunsmith hammer. 50 years of dealing with them things and I lean new stuff at the time too but the kirst .45 conversion is a new deal for me.

    Uberti 1860 short arbor fix

Total odd 1860 here had to file down the arbor end on a pietta so the gap was not like 1/64. But that was with a Kirst cylinder.

Pietta 1851 round balls or conicals ?

Should not admit this but now it's conical types as I did a kirst deal on a 1860 and a dragoon due to cap and powder wars as in they don't exist now. Still have several non not to mention versions and use hornaday balls in the box or lee mold balls.

Opinions on Pietta 1851 Confederate Navy revolver?

Not a fan of brass frames after having a navy send the barrel and cylinder down range when the arbor pulled out of the frame.

    total agree..

Pietta 1851 round balls or conicals ?

I have used both but really prefer the round balls for loading and making paper cartridges. Plus round balls will take more powder than the longer conicals will. Now the only 36 I have is a colt police so its very limited on powder capacity vs the 51 and 61 colts.

Fat thumb that was supposed to be 2F.

Interesting Cap & Ball Paper Cartridge Information

That is why the buffalo troopers got repeating guns as the ammo was more oatmeal than 22F.

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

I follow colts instructions and just lube the arbor.

Shooting Wooden Bullets? Are they effective?

Here I have some east german AK rounds that are plastic jacket wood bullets that the idea I get is they where riot control rounds. 30 feet they group like bird shot too.

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

I do not get the idea at all..take a gun and mess it up so it looks like a 160 year old gun vs what they looked like when used and packed in the 1850-70s.

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

I still go with its holyweard. Horse troopers carried carbines and why have a spare cylinder that will not fit your gun vs hello have a repeating carbine.

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

Get on a horse and try to do that and get back to reality..the cylinder swap deal is all hollyweard vs then swap? hello extra guns.
