It almost sounds like you need a tighter ball/patch combination. I've read about this on here many times, but have never experienced it.
Some use a "fouling shot" to cure this...others use a bit of veggie oil to coat the inside of the barrel before the first shot. I myself have a very tight ball/patch combo and my first shot is just as accurate as my last.I do however use some brake clean to swab out my barrel and then I pop a couple of caps off. Then load as usual.
Just my 2 cents...

My rifle is a .54 GPR and I use a .530 RB and .018 Wonderlube Patch. I clean with soapy water and use Rem Oil when I store the rifle. From the sounds of it maybe I either have to use a tighter patch or the use of a fowling shot before I hunt.

Same combination as you and same problem. I just allow for it. I never gave it much thought, just figured it shot higher because it was clean, and lower after fowled.

I don't know the reason for it but mine do the same thing. I just shoot one for fouling then go for it. My CFires do the same.

The title of your post had me worried for a minute...

Me too, and let me tell you we had a couple of guys show up to shoot at the public range smelling of beer. I asked if they had been drinking before they came out. They replied they work the night shift, and hoisted a few beer at a bar before coming to shoot.

I told them I did not feel comfortable allowing them to shoot, but if they wanted to try and get the OK to shoot I would call a supervisor to make the final decision.

They decided to leave, and come another day after work before stopping at the bar to have a few.

IMHO Alcohol Consuming, and Shooting don't mix well.

Try this I have done it with my New Englandand it worked. don't use it now gun quite doing i. Shooting high on cold bore shot. Try this load with your regular load, then befroe you cap or prime, spray a small amount of WD40 on patch and run down the bore to the ball, down and back out. Try that seeit it helps. Let me know back.It worked for me.
