I carry way more than I used to. Like the above post reminds us, malls, churches schools. NEVER KNOW ANYMORE. I am way too old to fight off a thug and dont intend to get hurt worse than a winch slap. Wont allow a broekn bone, won't allow a thug to touch my wife or daughters ****s (or your wife or daughter). Wont allow a thg to pstol whip anyone that could be considered old or handicapped. Cant beat em off these days so....

Like they say, "dont fight an old man, he cant fight very long and will just kill you". (note kill, not wound, wounding causes all kinds of unnecessary problems).

Grampa said when JFK got shot and they ran to the field to tell him "some people need killin" He was right, and there's more need it these days than in the 30's.

This crops up every few months. Before modern medicine when everyone moved at 2-4 mph, doctors were scarce, wound care was "well if he don't die he'll be OK, get a poltice from Granny Smith and keep it moist" CNB revolvers certainly beat a single shot, knife, or club.
An interesting thing I discovered was the CNB 44 has almost identical energy as today's 38 special, the 36 is equal to the 32 Long, the 31 equal to a 22 LR, give or take.

We had a pack of feral dogs on our property, fought them 2 years. I found one and had my '60 Army. It was wounded from its last chicken raid.
I hit it with a RB about 15 yards, surprisingly. It fell but got up. I closed and set it on fire from powder. Four rounds and still on its feet.

I gave up all thoughts of self defense with a CNB right there.

I worked one death and one non fatal shooting with black powder guns. Placement is vital.

Would you carry your sick grandchild to the hospital by horse drawn wagon if you had a car in the drive, because your great grandpa did?

You can't call ALIBI in a gunfight, no do overs. I survived two by God's grace and outhouse luck. I want the most powerful, easy to operate, accurate, thing that's easy to reload. Six shots don't last long when there's incoming fire.

Eterry has a great point right there about wagon vs car. Last July 4th I won a SARS 9mm umnetionable in a wounded vets raffle. 363 days later (and after several attempts) I still cant find where to put the caps so I must either get training or trade off for a bigger CNB pistol. Leaning trade actually. Have a .45 acp unmentionable, dont need two.

I've been at the range many a time and watched people struggle with rounds jamming in their modern handgun..... I look over and say out loud 'ah, got a cap jam huh?' and I know they have no idea what I'm talking about Haha. Point is : if the operator does his/her due diligence AND its a quality gun they can all be reliable.
All guns, for the most part, regardless, will misfire, or sometimes fail to load, if you shoot them enough, even your modern autos and revolvers. Have had it happen at the worst possible time as a cop and at other times. How you deal with will determine if you live or die. Too, you see. I've put hundreds of rounds through a BP revolver and if all precautions are taken in loading, they have never failed to go BANG!

.454 roundball 28 grains pyrodex into about 4" of compressed print.
All seem to have dropped roughly 10 grains of weight through the paper with some wicked expansion.
Running 40 grains of pyrodex they go through and through leaving some nasty exit holes.
Not something I wanna catch personally.

The only reason I can think of to carry a BP revolver over a smokeless powder handgun is that you're a convicted felon who can't legally own a modern firearm.

Ever notice where the nay-sayers are in some of the most crime ridden democrat states, and cities in the country. One would think the light would come on for them, guess it's something in their water supply.😉
Highest per capita gun deaths
mississippi: 28.6 per 100,000
Followed by Louisiana,Wyoming, Alabama,Alaska,New Mexico, Arkansas (22.6) Aren't most of these red states??
Lowest: Hawaii (3,4),Massachusettes 3.4, New Jersey 5, Rhode Island 5.1, New York 5.3, Connecticut 6
Seems like democrat states have far fewer gun deaths per 100,000

Maybe facts arent pretty but they do make a point. Centers for Disease control, and United Nations and Wisevoter (collection site) pretty much show that higher gun ownership and ability to carry equals more people getting shot. Additionally the UN data shows clearly that Americans are far more likely to be shot than anyone on the globe (you'd think a few african countries might give us a run for 1st place but coups and genocide are relatively short whereas we shoot each other every single day).

I started carrying concealed when the grandkids starting going hiking with us. When they are with me I AM RESPONSIBLE for their safety and as I get older I am less willing to go hands on with a thug or aggressive dog. Since covid I have on two occasions had to place my hand on my sidearm, once for two very aggressive black labs and once for a very aggressive and drunk *******. If I couldn’t carry an unmentionable I would for sure carry a BP revolver. If that is mot an option then pepper spray along with a club will have to do. Maybe I’ll get a nice war club as a backup.
Had training with night sticks and riot batons. Can do a lot of debilitating damage very quickly. But not much use at 10 yards against a firearm.

Sure you do...I had 2 yesterday, one on me, one in my bag

My first department issued "Bats" the other half of Hats and Bats. Bigger than a broomstick, almost 3 feet long, they rode under the headrest in the unit. When you jump out with those in unison the bluff is in. If that didn't work, my S&W M19.

Don't doubt that more people can die from being shot if there are more guns in hands to be able to shoot. I also believe the "statistics" should include numbers of deaths by all and any means in those other places. Just because they don't have a gun handy don't mean they don't die from other devices someone can carry in their hands. Machetes for example are real popular in some places.

I have a Wonderful Shelter for unloved guns. I've been doing rescues for decades. I'll pay shipping, promise it'll get fed regularly, kept clean and never left alone!!
🤣😂😅😊

Hey, you do you, if you need a gun to leave the house so be it. Seems like fear to me, but you do you. And, yes, your response was the dumbest post ever.

Do you have any crime where you live. I live in a risky part of the country. I want to be able to protect me and my love ones should the threat present itself. Do you ever leave the house ?

Worked 30 plus years nights at the Philadelphia Food Distribution Center. It was only active nights and pretty much anyone who went there, employee or customer, was armed. The surrounding area was mostly closed nights, except for a truck stop which was a magnet for pimps, hookers, thieves, muggers, junkies and sellers of dubious quality stolen goods.
I generally carried a 629 Mountain gun or a combat commander. When we felt things were really bad I carried instead a stainless 12 gauge pump. Did that after a truck driver got shot in the butt walking to our loading dock steps. Also after several nights of young thugs driving around shooting at random.
There was a bar restaurant in the middle of the block called the Blue Point but commonly known as Stinking Steve's. Strangers misbehaved there at their own peril. But for all the guns in the place and all the beer and whiskey poured no one ever did anything foolish with a gun and no one was ever hurt. The police would occasionally walk on our docks and visit. Oftimes to buy shrimp, etc. Nothing was ever said about the many visible firearms.
The market has moved to new controlled access quarters in a safer area. But for my time there it was like a slice of Dodge City in South Philadelphia.
