I use a .32 rd ball for small game and have used .45 and .58 for large game, but this year will use my new .54 for large game (and maybe even my .50, which up to now has mainly been my reenacting rifle).

I use a .570 round ball and 90 grains of fffg in my old CVA Mountain rifle.
Must be powerfull enough as they go out the other side all the time and the deer have never wanted to take more than ten steps at the most.
Creosote

All of my front-stuffers are .54 caliber, and all I ever stuff them with is roundball, whether it be in the woods or at the range.

thats awesome plumebleu! with a matchlock yet! what a hole. willbe using .54 hawken, hornady ball. chopper

(2) .45 caliber flintlocks shooting round balls and (2) .50 caliber percussion rifles shooting round balls.

.50 cal rb shooter here. Went thru the trouble of hammering maxi bullets down the barrel 5 times and went back to rbs. All the deer I've shot with it were 1 shot kills nothing running farther than 100 yards.

.50 CVA Mountain Rifle
.50 CVA Hawken Rifle
.50 ??? rifle (Italian import, can't just now recall name)
.50 CVA Bobcat Rifle
.50 CVA Mountain pistol

.490 PRB in all of them. I've hunted PRB's since 1979. Have taken deer with PRB's 26 of those years, including 1 (SO FAR) this year. I've taken not less than 32 deer over those years, maybe more than that but I stopped counting years back, it's not a "numbers game" for me. And with only two exceptions, those deer went straight down in their tracks. Strange, though, but those two that ran - most memorable. I'll try to get time to post a story about them someday. Also, only two (not same two) where the ball didn't exit.

I'll stick with round balls.

Imagine how small this thread would have been if the question was "how many DON'T use the roundball?". :)
