Since Chris has a lot on his plate right now and looks like he won't be posting a target for July I thought it would be fun to make a July 4th target and post for us to shoot this month. Same rules as Chris uses every month, but don't mail any targets to him. This will be only posting targets to this thread.

Target has 5 firecrackers - two shots per firecracker. Scoring will be 10 points for 10 ring in center of firecracker, 5 points anywhere else on it. One half of the ball diameter inside the scoring area. If you break any part of the fuse it will count as 10 points.

Hope you enjoy this target!

Gary

yeah good ill get into it again.PICTURES AFTER RIGHT?

I had the chance to shoot the July target today and did OK, but not great. My first target is on the right, the second, on the left. Not many duds, but not many 10's either. If you've yet to shoot it, I suppose aiming at the fuse for 10 pts. is a good strategy since it is larger, but nigh on invisible @ 25 yd. Nice target, Gary and thanks for doing this! Happy 4th of July all!

I went out to work up a good accurate load this morning before shooting this target. Made a real newb mistake and swabbed the bore and didn’t follow up with a dry patch, then loaded a starting charge of 15 gr 3F in my .32. Small charge of powder must have gotten pretty wet and would not ignite. Tried pulling the ball and after multiple attempts it appears it stripped out the center of the .32 ball and now it’s blocking the touchhole.

I’m thinking I’m going to have to pull the breech plug to push the ball out. Will think about it more tonight and figure it out tomorrow.

This does look like a fun target and I might take my .40 out tomorrow and shoot it.

if you have a vent liner Gary, you may be able to still pump it out with a grease gun by removing the liner and installing a zerk. best of luck whatever you do.

I thought about this, but the Kibler rifles have a liner without a screw slot so I would have to use an easy-out to get it out and then install a new liner. I have removed plugs on other rifles in the past and it was always a difficult task with the tools I had on hand, so I ordered a breech plug wrench and their octagon vise jaws - should make for easy removal and I can use them over and over:thumb:

I'll print it off and shoot it this weekend with my TC Hawken .50 cal. 25 yards off hand. I have a range finder to make sure it's the correct distance.

I received the plug wrench and vise blocks from Rice Barrel today and they made removing and reinstalling the breech plug a breeze! Pushed out one half a ball - the other half was torn out in pieces when I tried to pull it. Big shout out to Jason at Rice Barrel - he shipped these plus a very nice 48” range rod in a heavy cardboard tube that looked like it would survive getting run over by a UPS truck! His range rod is really nice and is a great deal for $20!

Now time to get back to the range to shoot the July target - as soon as I finish retiring my kitchen and installing tile on the walls😩

Here is my 25 yard off hand July target. Very tricky with iron sights. 10 shots on paper
