Hi, all. Quick update on my posting. Today, I fired the Traditions Kentucky Rifle (kit version) 18 times, all flawless. Loads (all Pyrodex RS ranged from 50gr to 110gr (max), all with Hornady .490 round ball and Win #11Mag percussion caps. MANY thanks to all who posted help with my problems and with advise on the hammer problem and misfires. Your recommendations obviously made a huge difference! No misfires, no delayed fires. All caps remained in the hammer bowl but were removed easily (I didn't get cut!). I shot all 18 rounds with no cleaning between shots. It did take me two hours after I got home to clean her up to the point she was at this morning. A lot of work but I had a great time. Thanks again to all of you!

Glad to hear everything went well.
I have also found that although Pyrodex does leave a light coating of fouling it does not build up like real black powder does after several shots.
I've shot dozens of rounds of Pyrodex loads in a day without needing to wipe the bore.
Real black powder in the same guns seem to continue to build up the thickness of the fouling so when I'm shooting it the barrel needs to be wiped at least every 4th shot.
If I don't, ramming the next ball down gets to be a real chore.
Now that you've got it working, you'll have to start the job of finding out which powder load it shoots best with. :grin:

Thanks, Zonie, for that info. I am still trying to find some real black powder around here. If I don't, I will probably get some from Graf's. Anyone use Graf's branded powder? And from comments, I'm thinking of obtaining some FF and FFF to compare them, since some of you have indicated that FFF is working well in long-barrel rifles. Mine is 33in.
