Finally!! Got the rear ramrod pipe in. Been doing too much engraving and not enough gun work.

Mike, The gun looks great. I love your engraving. Just out of curiosity, Why do you leave so much wood on either side of the entry thimble while inletting it? I find it so much easier to inlet if I remove all of that excess wood as the thimble settles into its final position. If I didn't, I would feel as if I was doing surgery.

No, bioprof, they're not! I kinda screwed up on this one, I started inletting with it tipped to the front, and then read here where it should be straight down. We'll see when I remove wood from the sides.

Wellsir bill, because I don't know any better! That's why I belong to this forum, so I can learn from you guys. :surrender:

I hope I'm not as stubborn as she is when I get to 86. Can't tell her anything. She has fallen 4 times since she moved into her new place, everyone, doctors, nurses, friends, are telling her she shouldn't be living alone, and now she has a cracked vertebrae. :cursing:

im guessing we are all going to be pretty well set in our ways when we get that age. We have a long time family friend that is 92 years old and she still has plenty of spunk left in her. She lives alone and the thought of her living anywhere else hasnt even crossed her mind id imagine. I know your situation is difficult but I respect the hell out of your mother for wanting her independence even if it is detrimental to her health. I think the best thing you can do is make sure you check in on her regularly and get her one of those emergency buttons she can wear around her neck in case of another mishap. Hopefully she is well enough to enjoy another christmas with you guys and not stuck in some hospital.
We wish you all the best mike...

Mike, It seems there are many of us, at our age, having to deal with our elderly parents. Many of them are such cantankerous souls. I guess it's payback for when we were teenagers.
My wife & I keep saying we hope we won't do that to our kids, but there are never any guarentees in life.
All the best to you & your mom, and just remember there are a lot of us doing the same thing & we all have sympathy for each other.
Paul
P.S. Nice looking gun.

I'm almost finished with the ramrod pipes, then comes the fun, the shaping of the stock. I really enjoy that part.

Moose, I know, my aunt is giving my cousin fits too. She fell while trying to fix her toilet, my cousin has been harping at her to get an emergency button. Too late. She broke her pelvis, and is in rehab, which she really can't afford. It's like you say, we have children to take care of. My mom finally gave in and has home health care, now I won't worry so much, and can get back to work.
I would agree with you on the teenager part except for one thing. I was a good teenager.
