Nah, I am not recoil sensitive. A 1 1/8 oz 12 ga shotgun load in a sub 7 lb sxs has the same recoil. It isn't that bad

My under 7lb 54 cal 21" carbine is going to shoot 485gr no excuses and the 7lb 24" 58cal is going to shoot the 580 grain maxi's Now those will be "toe stompers"

Not tougher, just perspective. I shoot lots of shotgun sxs that are less than 7lbs with heavier loads and more recoil than the 425gr load in the ML. 1 1/8 oz of shot (about 500 grains) in a high base shotgun load is more recoil that the ML.

I am sure the 58 cal in 580 gr at 1350 fps will being a tear to my eye...and not in happiness either! But it should not be any worse than my Marlin 1895 GG with Garrett Hammerhead 540 gr at 1550fps Garrett Cartridges Inc. That is "big bear" medicine.

Try shooting a 50 cal BMG Barrett in a bolt action 750 gr at 2820 fps. Even at 23 lb gun it will taco your shoulder.

Or for something really sporting, the Rizzini Rhino Express in 416 Rigby. That is about my limit in stupidity in a 9lb rifle there. 400 grains at 2415 fps

Shot in my first ever club match. It was a morning of many events for this first timer . It was fun and I didnt finish last lol

Had my first dryball. Pulled it successfully.
Managed to get a dry patch stuck...again but did get the rod to shoot out another first lol.

It was a wild and fun day!

Now on to the not so fun part.... giving the rifles proper cleaning.

Installed ram rod end and put toe plate on Kibler SMR build. This and ram rod ends last pieces to piece to blue. Just need to finish stock.

First 2 screws lined up perfectly by chance so felt like had to make the 3rd one match…..that was a major PITA, lol.

Or I think I may have read about some people using a filler to create more flash... Something to burn on exit...

I can see it as a buffer for shot, but you said RB.

I didn't do much except put on a sight and talk muzzleloader with a friend. He wanted to see my pistol and I always enjoy looking at the guns he's built. I think he's talking himself into finally shooting the BR .32cal underhammer he built.

Oh, and I looked at pictures of the new ML I bought off another forum. Can't wait to get that in my hands. 50cal like my pistol.

I got the idea from another post on this forum. Buffer material (grits, cornmeal, cream of wheat, etc) over the powder seems to have a great effect on making the load shoot well. I am not the first one to report this. I can only report that my 58 smoothbore shoots like a rifle with this combination. I have had this gun for 2 years and this is a miracle compared to all other loads I have tried. The exact amount of filler is probably not magic, I just tried to have enough for that big barrel to create a separation between powder and wad.

All of them have 2.5 inch chambers. There is not a game bird on this continent, and likely on any continent, that has not been taken with 2.5 inch cartridges. I do not like or tend to use hot loads All that said, the transition from lead shot was a slow learning process.

Concur., but I have Spanish guns, most were made for live pigeon competition shoots, 12 ga and are heavy proofed and stand up well for the heavy, repetitive loads they were designed for.

For the little birds (quail and dove) I use my 16's in 1 oz loads

I do not shoot steel as my guns are not made, proofed or choked for that, so I don't hunt or go where that is required.

Same here about steel. It has been a while since I hunted any waterfowl. If I ever do again I will take a modern unmentionabl Benelli that is good for steel.
