Gotta pour a few balls for the smoothbore, that’ll give me a chance too try out my new Tanner mold..

Building a loading stand for my muzzle loading single-shot pistols. When that's done, I'll make one for my cap 'n ball revolvers. One size doesn't fit all.

Stained the new ball pouch with Fiebings med brown stain and made a maple plug. Decided to use it for the smooth rifle and sea service pistol since they are .62 caliber and this holds 10 to 12 balls perfectly! Just enough.

Worked on my wall mount display for my new trapper pistol. Someone suggested to use tru-oil. Being its my first time, it's a learning experience. 3rd coat but haven't sanded yet. Got black iron hooks coming for it. And an old timer said place a cotton ball just inside the muzzle for dust control.

Whiskered and sanded twice on the CVA Kentucky. 150 and 220. Once more tomorrow with 320 then finish. Don't know what to finish with so.... I ll clean the barrel up and blue it.

Finished installing some wire inlay and incise carving on a nice little 40 caliber flintlock that I have been working on.

My new Uberti Colt 1851 Navy arrived yesterday, so did the usual cleanup and polish*, and today went to the range and shot it at seven paces. I was astonished to discover that with 20 and 25 gr loads this thing shoots virtually flat at that distance. It hit a little to the left, but I attribute that to learning proper finger placement on the trigger. I then took some shots at the gongs at 25 yards and hit four out of six, including the pinballs, but missed one pinball and the little diamond. I also shot the 1851's little brother, my Colt 1862 Pocket Police, with 15 grain loads. Lots of black powder smoke and great fun, and some conversation with other shooters, and I gotta say, this 1851 Colt Navy is one heck of a neat little pistol.

* the hand, the hand slot, and a couple spots on the hammer groove needed a little work. Also, the arbor is a little short, so a washer was deputized for duty. Gun now is tight and runs smooth. I did experience #11 caps tended to be too loose and a couple times the next in sequence fell off the nipple. #10 caps are too long and rub on the recoil shield during cylinder rotation. I'll put in an order to Slixsprings for new nipples.

It's a wet cold raw day here so I spent a couple of enjoyable hours thumbing through 65+ years of Dixie catalogs looking for some information. Quite the rabbit hole to go down.
The 50's were quite the times, Bull Ramsey, Pop Nieder an Indian fighter and take note of the last sentence on page 50. They kept it simple without worrying about the lawyers back then !!

Almost went too a shootin match with no balls..
Well , I had a few but not enough for the novelty shoot & the woods walk..

It gave me an excuse to try out my new Tanner .626 mould…

Ended up with 36 of 50 or so…
The mould preformed great ! The culls were lead not being hot enough.
