Shot the Uberti Colt 1860 to try out some paper cartridge variations. Still not happy with my cartidge materials and methods; cons still outweight the pros, so will continue to investigate and try some other assembly and load variations. Also shot the SMR at 100 yds to discover where it was hitting and grouping and inform possible sight tweaking. Some good times had socializing with other shooters to admire their guns and they mine, exchanging information and opinion, and also learning from another BP enthiusiast about fowler pieces.

Today I finally got around to doing the Mike Belliveau, 1860 modification to facilitate the loading conicals and paper cartridges.

This turned out much easier than anticipated and I'm pleased with the result. Tomorrow I'll range test the new Eras Gone Kerr conicals in both the1860 and 1858 Remington.

This may rekindle my interest in making paper cartridges. I have developed a simplified method which eliminates the bottom cup and will try to show that later.

Back when we used to do magic tricks in the 1970's, we had this nitrated paper called flash paper that would go POOF and disappear. This flash paper would be a perfect solution to cartridges in a cap and ball revolver. The flash of the cap would set off the paper and the powder at the same time leaving no paper residue. Being flammable, it may even help with the ignition of the powder in the chamber.

Time to make the patches.

On this go round, I'll leave the patches wet and zip lock bag them.

The greasy stuff that leeches its way into the material may work as a lubricant.
