So you’re the one who scored that kit….

I’m glad. You saved me some money.
I can't pass up a nice rifle kit. This will be my 3rd rifle kit I've finished. Here are the first and 2nd I did last year.

Had my 2nd post op Dr appointment and physical therapy today. They removed my brace and say I can delicately use my left arm and hand. So I got home, rested a bit and got going on the CVA mountain pistol kit I recently acquired. I fit the hooked breech to the tang, took the lock apart, finished the lock plated inlet and fit the lock plate to the drum. Felt good to accomplish something. It’s been a long 7 weeks.

Shot my Frontier percussion today. Much better outing than yesterday with the flintlock. First shot out of the gate was the 12" plate at 125 yds. After that there's was lots of steel with new dents in 'em. :)

You just need to shoot the flintlock more that’s all it shoots just as good as the percussion.

Glad to hear your good report!

Co

Couple of weeks ago I bought a brand new in the box CVA mountain pistol kit, all parts were brand new, never touched. The lock wouldn’t budge, the packing oil was so hardened and glue like that it completely bound the lock. Have you tried to disassemble and clean the lock?
yeah I checked it against a known good lock and measured it the diameter of the wire to make the spring is .020" thicker

I found this and won . £20 on eBay uk. New but at least 30 years old according to seller, needs slight finishing and hardening , maybe made by a model engineer It will go with my heavy .45 barrel , no not made in India

Finished the stock on the SMR. 2 coats of sealer/filler and 2 coats of oil varnish/turpentine mix. Installed the furniture. I’m pleased with the walnut overall but the ram rod stain I used is terrible. I’ll wait till I finish the barrel to decide on a different shade. And, of course, I banged stuff up putting things together so future scratches won’t be that hard to swallow.
