Build a N.W. Blanket Gun

Mark your guide lines / depth lines on the side for your barrel depth , web , and ramrod hole . Make sure your optimum T.H. position and breech is marked on the barrel . Drill a larger hole through wood to see the TH position ... Return barrel and pin it in , clamp near breech . Hold lock to where TH is in correct position to the pan , level with top and centered , slight adjustments can still be made later , get as good as you can .Position so front screw can hit meat on the lock plate and will go through the web of wood between barrel and R.R. hole ... Then ...while holding the plate ( stripped ) in optimum position , trace with sharp pencil ...the pan , pan fence , top of bolster full length and front and rear ... It'll fight ya , keep watching TH position and front screw position ...then remove plate ...take measurements thickness of bolster at rear and forward section , strike line and then start inletting the bolster ...inlet until plate sits flush on wood and check.all positions ... if problems correct them ...then chisel down to barrel ...when near barrel I use scrafice chisel because it'll hit the barrel ... Makes good sharp edges in the mortice so I like doing it this way . When bolster mortice is inlet completely , make sure plate is in good position , then trace the plate .... start inletting it next ....

Looks like one I’ve seen and it shoots crazy good patterns and real easy to clean .

Pistols weren't really a trade item . From time to time youll see them in fur trade posts inventories but very sporadic and more expensive to say the least . The cut down trade gun was used as a pistol or close quarters weapon , their most famous use was when the weapons were carried and hidden by natives under their blankets , hence the name , and smuggled into Fort Michilicamackinaw and they took over the fort

With your guide lines on side ... Watching TH position , trace plate .... Start inletting it , use 1/8 chisel at the ends , curves , etc. Keep checking at the bolter / barrel and look at the gap , and see if front or rear needs more taken out yo keep.level., etc.....tap lock plate in with brass hammer

I took some of the fat off the bottom .... Put marks , guide lines on there , measurement below RR hole and from pattern. Dont want to take off too much wood ...

When the space at barrel and bolster starts gettin darn close , then blacken bottom of plate and take it down to almost touching , keep it level to ..

When touching or paper thin gap at bolster ....put plate in mortice and take an undersized bit and drill all your holes down into wood , just as a guide ...dont touch those threads and screw them up.!!! I use an old undersized drill bit where I snapped off all but a little bit of the spirals at the cutting tip , keep them from cutting up the threads ... Then roughly mark and trace all internal parts , etc..of lock ...time to start hogging out the space for the moving parts ... Drill the sear channel / hole first ...to trigger slot depth ....

Maybe in the summer time bud ...perhaps I'll have built the outhouse by then too ! . I wish scotch ! I had to quit drinkin ,health stuff. Over a year now ...Sobriety sucks meh :/

I drilled for the lock screws and then hogged out the wood to fit the lock in the mortice , get it to more ,operate freely . Took forever ,Geesh !! When lock is first Put in put lines in front and back of the hammer / cock , and scoop out that wood ...starting point ...more later there as you work the action ....have that barrel clamped down when drilling lock screw holes

Reassemble lock and inlet black the inside parts...keep putting the lock in the mortice , work it , then remove it and then remove the black spots inside and at top by hammer ...keep at it .....
