anyone attempted to make a TC Hawken correct?

I have two .50 cal T/C Hawkens. They're great USA made BP rifles that I think will be sought after in the future now that they're no longer made. One I have left as is from the factory. The other I replaced the brass screws with steel, trimmed the triggerguard, lined and engraved the patchbox...

    ?value of a t/c renegade 56 sb

Online buying is dodgy, you have to ask questions and check feedback. Out of curiosity I did a search and I don't think T/C makes Renegades or Hawkens anymore. Midway's retail price was $789!! but they claim they are discontinued. I guess the foreign copies have finally driven T/C out of the...

    ?value of a t/c renegade 56 sb

Prices seem to be all over the place. I picked up a used Hawken in great shape for $100 at a gunshow last year. The same gun in a shop would be $350. New from a dealer would be $500+. .56 Smoothbores are more scarce and could fetch a premium from folks in areas that only allow smoothbores for...

Trying to Find Single Barrel Percussion

I'm in the process of building one based on a T/C renegade stock. I'm presently researching barrel/tang options.

    Wasp nest as .."WADS"

When I reinsulated my basement I discovered a large wasp nest in the old glass insulation. I'd read about it being used historically for wadding and tried it in my .62cal trade gun. It did the job over powder and over the ball. Smoothbores are very flexible in their fodder.

New England Smooth Rifle Canoe Gun....

That is a nice looking gun for sure. I never really paid much attention to canoe guns until I started seeing all the ones on this forum. I think i'll have to add one to the battery this year. It can be a buddy for my chopped Springfield '63.

    Nipple hole size

Interesting responses. I havn't had any ignition problems with modern nipples, it was just an observation based on examining some old ones.

    Canoe guns again

So maybe they're General Porpoise guns? :rotf:

    Help Picking My First

I have an NSW Early English in .62. Excellent "all rounder". Very well made. Also, I wouldn't scoff at survival uses. If the stuff does hit the fan modern ammo and caps will become very scarce/expensive overnight.

    Nipple hole size

A comment from another poster reminded me to ask this question of the forum. Why are the holes in modern percussion nipples so narrow? I've examined a few 19th century nipples that had holes as large as 3/32 of an inch.

    Finally a Seneca.

I've had success peening such marks away. That's one of the things I like about BP guns, mild steel is much easier to work with.

    Straight Razor Shaving

I've shaved with a straight razor a few times just to try it. I went slow and found the correct angle/technique by trial and error. It's great for taking off beards as they don't clog.

    Brown Bess Question

I've had good luck with my Jap Bess. Alway's sparks, no delay. I did some cosmetic work on it so it would appear more correct. One thing I would recommend is rounding out the trigger guard. This will prevent the ENDLESS recountings of Jap Bess lore.

    pulling a stuck ball/ramrod

Brilliant! Easier to pull and you're behind the barrel.

    TC Hawken 12 Gauge

That sounds like a handy set up to have. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled in the hopes of finding one. If it came down to it, it probably wouldn't be too hard to fabricate. Then gauge/length would be optional.

    New .54 is finished!

Beautiful Gun! Spectacular wood, clean lines and I love the octagon to round barrel.

    Canoe Gun: the real story

It is the nature of online forums that some posters seem to be more into arguing than discussing. Ignore this, as ultimately it's irrelevant. I read through the postings to glean usable information and there is alot of it on this forum....for free. After perusing the offerings for awhile you'll...

Got a New T/C Hawken today....

I hope my refinish comes out looking as good as yours! You've got me thinking about adding a toe plate again too!

Got a New T/C Hawken today....

I picked up a used TC Hawken a couple of weeks ago. It's a kit gun that someone put together but didn't do any finish work on. $100 gunshow special. The barrel looks good as it has a natural brown patina. The stock is grungy but I can see significant curl under the dirt. It will be steel wooled...
