Take the stock to the saw and slab off that dead wood under your forestock following your lines , be careful ... That slab sure makes great knife handles !!

Find your center at the spot where Ramrod entry hole will be and at muzzle , mark them . I use calipers and measure from both sides then double check ... Mark a line between these two marks . This is where your R.R. channel is going to go . Sharpen up those gouges !!

Drill your feeler holes in the barrel channel so you can keep track of what long drill is doin in there . If the drill starts going down , hold up on bit as your drilling , it tried it here but straightened it back out , thank goodness ... Drill slow , little at a time . Drill to breech line ...done!!

Once lugs are soldered on ...file bottom of lugs flat and put I let black on them ...inlet them into wood in barrel channel , keep tapping barrel back to keep any gaps from occuring at breech . When its all down ,mark your lug locations on side of stock.for drilling .....

Make darn sure barrel is all way back to breech , no gaps , check your barrel lines on side of stock for accuracy .... Clamp barrel down , and then SLOWLY drill each barrel pin position . Once done on drill press I like to drill again with stock.on the bench , I set the bit in the drill to go little deeper ...

Touch hole location is on barrel , mark location on stock , lock side ..Drill hole so you can see location of T.H. with barrel in ....gonna start lock inlet soon . Lay lock on wood at its future location and mark approximate line for front mortice ....from this line forward run a line along side barrel as shown ....its just approximate ....this your going g to slab off , just extra that needs removed . After its slabbed off you can redrill lug holes ( make sure they are lined up !!!) with short bit and it should go out other side ... Disassemble the lock ...gonna start positioning and inletting lock plate soon ....

You make it look so easy Rob but I guess after 65 of them it probably is
easy for you .Looking good there Rob..

Disassemble lock , make sure T.H. optimum position is marked on barrel , line up pan with TH and also where front lock bolt can go through web and lock.plate missing main spring . Then trace the lock bolster top and sides ...take plate off measure bolster and finish bottom.of trace of bolster . start inletting straight down . When you get close to barrel use sacrifice chisel ....

Keep taking g plate down , watch gap at pan to how far down it needs to go and if its higher front or back , check from side if its square to the barrel flat . When it gets close to barrel inlet black the plate to take it down accurately , squarely .... I slabbed off the lock side of forestock.....and took off e tra wood around lock.mortice ... I marked front bolt location before I removed the wood that had my marks on it

Got er down ! No gap ! Usually I'll take her to d@mn close to down then inlet the parts etc. then ease it down last bit after wards but this one just sat right down ! Cool , I'll take that ! I marked the middle lock bolt hole position too , the pencil line is bottom of the bolster , line to left is the end of breech bolster so ....mark those parameters and then mark and drill your hole there ...
